Seventh Grade Students learn about the battle between light and dark through Notan. Then students use a 6 x6 piece of black paper and create a design making sure to incorporate a theme. Using exacto knifes and a lot of patience, students cut their design out and adhere it to a larger sheet of white paper. What a great way to teach positive and negative shapes. Warning: it is very visual and showing students how the flipping of the design actually works is very important!

Egyptian Luck Amulets
Seventh Grade Students created amulets inspired by Ancient Egyptian Luck Amulets that were tucked into the wrappings of a mummy to protect them as they traveled to the afterlife. Each student brainstormed and sketched how they wanted their amulet to look before creating it out of salt dough. Once the amulets were "fired", students added visual interest by coloring with markers and watercolors. The amulets were then sealed to last forever, just like the Egyptian Amulets.
